Sunday is do nothing day

In Uncategorized on September 20, 2009 at 8:55 pm

But of course the body keeps moving.  Even when not at the gym, we do things that make the body sweat, heart race and breathe deeper.

For me, it was painting and moving bedroom furniture from one room to another.  Priming, dusting, taping, painting, sweeping, mopping.  Then of course never ending laundry.

This just goes to show that you can burn calories and work up an awesome muscleburning sweat doing everyday, functional activities.

Friday Again

In Uncategorized on September 18, 2009 at 3:37 pm

I did cardio today at the gym.

30 minutes slow walking on the treadmill.  I didn’t want to be smelly when my client showed up for her session.  After I trained her(back and biceps) I did 45 minutes on the stepmill.   This was the first time I have done 45 minutes and my legs are really feeling it, especially my hamstring and glutes.  I love feeling my muscles have been worked out.

Tomorrow, I have a family that wants a joint session.  Mom, two sons ages 8 and 10, sometimes the 3year old joins the sessions, she likes the fitness rings that I use for dynamic squatting.

I have to plan for tomorrows session, to keep it interesting for the kids.

Tuesday, Day Two

In Uncategorized on September 15, 2009 at 6:52 pm

So, if you are  getting back into working out, just starting to workout or new to fitness.

Tuesday may seem like a harder day than Monday.  You may be unmotivated and not want to go to the gym.   You may be sore and moving muscles may be the last thing on your mind.

Never fear, think positively!  Remember, baby steps.  Today is day two.  Trust me, when you finish Tuesday’s workout, you will feel good about how you stuck to the committment to yourself to workout on Tuesday!

If you have muscle soreness, figure out which areas are sore and avoid that area.  If your legs are sore, work your upper body, arms, shoulders, back, chest abs.  Or, just have a cardio day, just a pilates day, just a day of stretching or meditating.  Again, when you spend 30-60 minutes of activity, it is always better than doing nothing at all!    Whichever activity you choose, when you finish it, pat yourself on the back.  Water never tastes so good after a workout.

Don’t ruin your workout by ingesting a heavy fast food meal.  Think healthy eating.  Healthy does not equate boring! Proteins like fish, eggs, beans, peanut butter, etc.   Whole wheat grains and fresh fruits and vegetables.  Research healthy food sites to see what is good for you and what is much better for you!

Monday Musings

In Uncategorized on September 14, 2009 at 8:25 pm

I always love that song by BoomTown Rats”  I don’t like Mondays”.

The weekend is over, and it’s Monday.  Not so bad, at the gym trained one client today.  She is coming along very nicely.  Never had a weight issue, but we did nip that lower back pain in the bud.  She actually forgot about it until I asked her about it.

Usually, when people have lower back issues it may be caused by tight hamstrings and weak abdominals.          The first course of action, after sufficient warm up is the stretching.

I will do a session of stretching and Muscle Activation Techniques.   This will induce some muscle soreness after the workout.  It is like lifting for the first time, the muscles haven’t been “activated” in a particular way.  So, again we take baby steps into getting your body to be stronger.  Using bodyweight, bands, swissballs, weighted balls, etc.

It will take any combination of all, more or less of the above stated equipment.

Friday Fun day

In Uncategorized on September 11, 2009 at 8:48 pm

I work out at this hard core gym, Apollon, in New Jersey.   Power lifters, Pro bodybuilder, fitness  girls and us regular folks who love that atmosphere.

I love when I go in there and a Pro BB or Fitness competitor comes in, strips down to posing trunks(guys) or bikinis and stilletos(girls)  One of the best things about this place is that all are welcome.  I was doing the stepmill today after lifting. Next to me was the co owner and wife of one of the other owners,(she is one of the 4 owners, all Russian)  she is preparing for the national body building competition in few months.  We were side by side of individual step mill, dripping buckets and looking at each other as if to say ‘we must be nuts!”

Then I came home, showered, ate lunch and took a nap.   Now, I’m sitting here with splatters of  white paint all over me.  I wonder if the black paint that was my daughters room will bleed thru the primer…..

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Fitness for Health

In Uncategorized on September 10, 2009 at 9:46 pm

I want to help people think of fitness as one of the main ways to stay healthy.

Our President wants us to take preventive measures to keep out of doctor’s offices.   You should always go annually for check ups like GYN, Prostate, Physicals, etc.  Just to make sure all is as it should.

We want to be able to  lead healthy lives without depending on medicines to keep blood pressure under control, triglycerides, type two diabees, obesity, etc.

I have several ideas on how to accomplish some of these things.  It all starts with one step at a time and wanting to make better choices in habits that are not always in our best health interest.

About me, I have been a ACE certified personal trainer in New Jersey for nine years.  I have also been certified to teach BodyTrainingSystem fitness classes which include Group Active, Group Groove and Group Power.  I have been doing this for the last 5 years.

Enough for now, This is actually my first blog on here, so I am figuring it all out.
